10 must-do activities in Curacao

For the Curaçao Calendar 2012 we are looking for the best must-do activities in Curaçao

This is what we have made up till now:

Curaçao is by far the most beautiful island in the Caribbean. Besides exploring the various landscapes by hiking, there is so much more to do. If you’re looking for white beaches and crystal clear turquoise water, rich history and unique architecture; you’ll find it here. Oh, and don’t worry about the weather… Curaçao has a warm and sunny climate all year round!

10 must-do activities in Curaçao

Dinah Veeris tour curacao

1. Experience and learn about the Curaçao culture, herbs and plants in during a fascinating tour in Dinah Veeris’ Botanic & Historic Garden.

2. Climb the highest hill – the Christoffelberg – in the biggest national nature park of Curaçao. It is an enjoyable climb with views across the forest to the coast in all directions. An early start and sturdy walking shoes are recommended.

3. Go snorkeling at the beaches of Banda’Bou like Playa Kalki, Playa Jeremi and Playa Lagun. You will be stunned looking in the crystal clear water.

4. Feel the tremendous power of water at North Shore of Curaçao. The rugged coast with its crashing waves is accentuated by beautiful bays and caves that are half immersed in water.

5. Go sunbathing at Seaquarium Beach with its palm trees and white sand. It has a good selection of shops, bar, restaurants, and facilities for water sports. Ideal for children.

8. Enjoy the distinct historical architecture of Scharloo. This quarter of Willemstad consists of beautiful mansions, built in the classicist style by rich Jewish families during the 18th century. It is a reminder of the of a golden period in the history of Curaçao.

9. Try many of the strong Curaçao liqueurs that are available for free tasting at the Senior & Co Inc. Curaçao Liqueur Factory in Landhuis Chobolobo located in Saliña.

Landhuis Santa Martha Grandi

10. Dive into the history of Curaçao and visit one or two of the many museums, for example Kura Hulanda Museum, Mikve Israel Emanuel Synagogue & Jewish Museum, Maritime Museum, Landhuis Santa Martha Grandi or Museo Tula.

Today it was a perfect day for taking pictures at Curacao. This morning I went to Seaquarium Beach to take some beautiful pictures for the next Curacao Calendar. The sky was perfect blue.

At the end of the evening the sky was still blue and cloudless, so I went to Otrobanda to photograph the Handelskade. I was stunned by the bright colours of the Penha Building – a part of the Handelskade -.
